there are 3 orbitals in every p shell, not just 4. that makes 6 electrons total!

Yes, p has always 3 orbitals, no matter its level.
s: 1 orb.
p: 3orb.
d: 5 orb.
f: 7 orb
However, you do not have p orbitals in all levels
It goes like this:
Aufbau

1s
2s-2p
3s-3p-3d
4s-4p-4d-4f
5s-5p-5d-5f-5g...
And so on
