I would call a HVAC tech. It is probably a simple problem, but it is hard to tell.

that little link is called the flame roll out switch. why it is non resettable is that if that shuts the unit down there is a good reason. and that reason is usually the hot burnt gas that usually goes up the chimney is backing out the bottom at where the flame is. so if you keep shorting it out for heat you are playing with your life. carbon monoxide is coming back into your house and some one of these nights your not going to wake up and die in your sleep. you might have even experienced some of the warning sign already flu like or just a head ache. go to a Bryant or carrier dealer with the model and serial number and get the right part. Bryant and carrier are the same company. now the reasons for the chimney not flowing could be the chimney is blocked or the furnace is blocked internally. your best bet is call a heat guy. don't keep taking a chance with your life if you do we'll see you on TV being taken out of your home in a black bag. i don't mean to scare you but this is real and serious. good luck.

Most likely the ignitor went bad. When the furnace starts, you hear a clicking noise, which is a spark plug type thing igniting the burner. Usually $100-150 by a heating contractor. If you are looking for a good one, call a local real estate office, they often get a lot of furnace inspections and will be able to recommend a good company instead of a random pick from the phone book.

You will need to call the furnace repair company or the gas compnay. It is probably the lighter (sparker) that has gone bad.

Are you certain you have gas? It sounds as if there's nothing heating the air, which indicates to me that you may be out of gas.
