If you are looking for jazz music, I'd join napster, and discuss jazz with other listeners who love the same genre. And if that is too forward, napster can make excellent recommendations.

You always have the option of http://last.fm. whatever music you like, it will find other users who like the same music, and it will automatically show you similar artists.

Also, there's Pandora.com. All you have to do is punch in a favorite song/artist and it will start recommending it to you.

mydogchlamydia has some sweet recommendations
its hard to beat those

John Coltrane's album Blue Train is fantastic (try to get the entire album, because all the tracks are superb)
Oliver Nelson's The Blues and the Abstract Truth (best song on that is "Stolen Moments")
Art Blakey's Moanin'
Dizzy Gillespie's "Night in Tunisia"
Stan Getz's "The Girl from Ipanema"
Frank Sinatra's "Luck be a Lady" and "Mack the Knife (with Dean Martin)"
those are some fantastic ones

if you like trumpets, look for Lee Morgan, Clifford Brown, and Miles Davis
if saxes appeal to you, check out Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, and Charlie Parker
guitar, then Pat Metheney, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell
look these names up in whatever search youre using for downloading and youll get some sweet stuff, no matter what the track is

John Coltrane, Miles Davis (esp. Shade of Blue), Herby Hancock.

There was a really good band in Denver that was a mix between jaz and hip hop. They play mellow jazz music and rap over it (it's really good). They're called The Break Mechanics. I heard they broke up, but I'm not sure. But you should definitely check it out. They're real chill. Some of the members were also in a group called Future Jazz Project.

go fo some big names, coltrane, miles davis, coleman hawkins, monk. and bear in mind what year it was recorded, i like the 50's stuff and early 60's, jazz went a bit experimental in the seventies... though still some cool stuff.
