I have a 94 Mitsubishi Diamante which I've had for at least two months now. I start my car the same way everyday, and usually allow it to run for 5-10 minutes until the meter (w/ the hot & cold letter) reaches half way.

Yesterday for some odd reason my car just decided not to start. It did but for like 2-3 seconds then it would die. I tried starting it over 5 times, and even reeved it a couple times to see if it would stay started but it still wouldn't.

But now after 24 hrs. I tried it again and there's no problem what so ever. I'm just worried that my cars playing some stupid trick on me. I don't want to risk going to school then finding out that it won't start again. I'm trying not to drive off somewhere then end up being stuck because my car wants to go stupid again.

EXTRA INFO:
The weather was like every other day. Chilly & Cold.
My battery was changed when I first got the car.
My oil was changed a week ago.
I'm low on antifreeze? would that cause the problem.

It shouldn't be the alternator. If it was, then the starter wouldn't turn over and the car wouldn't start at all. If it was an antifreeze deficiency then you would be overheating.
Most likely you have some sort of pressure issue in your pipes or a clogged fuel injector. Might also be faulty spark plugs or some other electrical problem.

If you can rev it then it's not likely to be a fuel problem so that rules out the pressure and fuel injection possibilities. I would guess that you need to change the spark plugs which is relatively inexpensive. Consult your manual and find out how often you should change them. Your local mechanic should be able to do it for you.

To answer this question, as a tech, I'd have to ask you some questions. What are the weather conditions like when this occurs? Temperature of not only the engine, but the ambient air temperature, was it raining, etc. Customers will frequently come into my shop with this type of problem. What I inform them is that if it's starting ok now, then there's not much I can do for you at this time. My suggestion to you is, arrange to drop off the car to your mechanic overnight so that he may make an attept to duplicate the condition you're experiencing. Also inform him of the same questions that I asked. These are very important in order to make a proper diagnosis. The Mitsubishi, like most cars, is loaded with electronic equipment, so being able to pinpoint the problem without duplicating the condition would be a waste of time. Even for a 1994 model year car, there's a mass air flow sensor, baro-read sensor, the list goes on and on, and it may not be a sensor, it may be an electrical problem somewhere. This is why it can sometimes take a long time just to find out what the problem is, let alone fix it. It would be better to leave it with the technician for a few days then to drive somewhere and not have it start and leave you stranded. Now, it may take a few days to duplicate the symptom, I've experienced this with vehicles much to the dissapointment of my customers, but when someone comes to me to have their car fixed of a certain problem, I don't like it leaving unless the problem's fixed. That's what being a technician is all about.

hi Get it bounce began back, until eventually now you start up the two automobile!! This time connect one bring about the different automobile advantageous then a similar lead on your advantageous. next connect the different bring about the different automobile destructive then that bring about a solid Earth on your automobile (Engine lifting eye, Nut on authentic of one of the suspension mounts) no longer the destructive on your battery. start up the different automobile and permit it authentic up your battery for 5 minutes, meanwhile use a Volt Meter and verify the reading around the wires going out of your battery on your automobile. could study Min 12 volts and in case you slowly enhance the revs on the different automobile it is going to bypass as much as approximately 14.5 volts and not extra whether you enhance the revs somewhat extra. After 5 minutes start up you automobile and do away with the bounce leads try comparable with volt meter and in case you get comparable variety of readings your Alternator is okay. If it is going above 14.5 volts your Alternator is okay yet you have blown the Voltage Regulator. in case you don't get comparable reading it may be the Alternator or the rigidity Belt desires adjusting? After a jiffy swap off the engine, go away for 5 minutes and volt verify back without switching on the ignition. If below 12 volts your battery is U.S. (Batteries have 6 cells @ 2 volts and could purely provide 6 X the backside cellular so if one cellular is broken a million.5 volts it particularly is going to purely provide you 9 volts). additionally whilst utilising the lighting fixtures furnishings take there skill from the battery no longer the Alternator to furnish you a delicate mild and whilst no skill left in battery your automobile will stop. with a bit of luck all you have completed is wrecked the battery because it particularly is hassle-free to restoration. I doubt its your alternator because you would not hear anything when you turned the key in the switch because that is the ultimate power source for everything in your car including the battery, you may need a tune up(spark plugs replaced etc.) low antifreeze would not cause that either go to a mechanic check it out better safe than sorry when dealing with cars... Good Luck

It's not your car that's being stupid if you let the antifreeze get low. The temp gauge won't work right if the coolant gets below the sensor point.

Sounds like a temporary vapor lock. Also check the fuel filter, it might be ready to be replaced.
You are wasting a lot of fuel heating it up that much, also you'll cause carbon built up if you do that all the time.

If it was able to start, even for 2 seconds, it wouldn't be the battery or alternator.

probly just needs a tuneup

the alternator pretty much works or doesn't

the antifreeze is not relevant unless its below freezing or overheating
