Because it doesn't require much thought and it is the easy way out for many.

Because it's easier than thinking up something original. I believe that is why people imitate the most ignorant, idiotic people and things. A sort of laziness.
On the other hand, why reinvent the wheel if you can use one that already works? Things that are proven to be great and work, hey, why not try it yourself and see if it works for you?

this is a good question, and i think you will find the answer is based on human beings fear of no belonging to the group. human beings fear not being accepted or being an outsider. everyone wants to be apart of society and if we break that down further we will find that everyone wants to belong at work, school and where ever else they must interact with one another. the group has tremendous influence over the individual and i believe this is the cause of such imitation.

In order to feel accepted Sometimes we are in situations where we don't know the appropriate thing to do (and still have everyone think highly of us), so we imitate someone. Also they could do it out of habit--that's how we do a lot of learning when we are babies and children.

Really lame ideas, here. Humans are social animals that are heavily dependent on imitative learning. No secret; no mystery here.

Super Steve's answer is excellent. We're so afraid of being on the outside that even when given the opportunity to carve our own path, we take a more familiar road that is tried and true. Accepted.
Does this make us lemmings? Or does this make us smart? Does this make us lose our individuality? Or is this just simply survival? Is it admiration? Or desperation?
yes.... it leaves us with so many questions. Indeed each case is different... and indeed we will all see OUR situations differently than the one before us. But in this crazy world we live in... we all tend to make a decision that we know will be.........
............ Safe!!

Cause people are not very different from sheep: they tend to gather together, and follow a leader, cause it's much easier to have someone tell you want to do and what to think, instead of using their own brain.
I like using my own brain, and standing outside of the circle, following my own voice.

we are so caught up in every day life that we dont necessarily take the time to be original and everytime someone does be it a nose ring or purple spiked hair they are then often outcast and stereotyped...so at this point id say damned if they do damned if they dont
