The pad is like foam or something. I don't want to ruin it by using a harsh cleaner.

I used hot (steaming hot) soapy water. And, scrubbed it real good after each time I used it. If you are concerned about germs and bacteria I'd just add a little bit of bleach to your water. But, not enough so you can smell it. Make sure you are wearing your dishwashing rubber gloves cause bleach can burn skin. Be careful not to touch your clothes or your eyes. And, rinse the tub thoroughly.

If you use a little it won't ruin the foam. If you want you could even use the color safe bleach it's much softer and not as stinky. Plus, it won't harm the foam.

fill it up with hot water and add 1 or 2 capfuls of bleach

Clorox Anywhere spray can be used on most anything and is very gentle
