I would sit down and talk to your homeless person first, find out what is going on, what their reasons are for living on the street (some prefer living on the street), etc. There used to be a guy who panhandled at my bus stop and I got to talking with him. Turned out he used to do manual labor (at construction sites) but got injured; when he recovered he couldn't get a job because everyone was hiring illegals for cheap. He wanted to move to New Orleans and help with the reconstruction there but had no connections, thought there wasn't any inexpensive places to live anymore there (he thought they'd all been wiped out by Katrina); he felt that if he could get there (his sister would pay for a bus ticket) and find cheap housing, he'd be able to find work. So I jumped online to Craig's List, printed him out some week-to-week inexpensive housing possibilities and gave it to him. He did more research into the Craig's List housing list and went to N.O. to try starting over there. No money (from me) involved, just pointing him to a resource that he (and the librarian at the public library) didn't know about. Talk to them, if there's something you can do, there you go. In my city, there are a lot of public assistance and community help places but not all street people want to (or can) put up with whatever the organization requires from them. Some are substance abusers. You can't know until you talk to them, and (the ones I know anyway) like being treated like fellow human beings just trying to get along in this world, not ignored.

Are you sure the person is homeless,It`s well known that most of the so called homeless beggars you see on the street (usually with a dog and eating a macdonalds burger) are`nt homeless at all but just too bone idle to do days work.
Of those that are truly homeless the vast majortiy are in that position by choice. If they do need help there are several agencies that will find them somewhere to live even if it`s a homeless shelter.

No society can thrive peacefully leaving their personal lesser priveleged brethern on the streets. even as the established of residing of the fairly some the human beings substitute for the further useful, correspondingly the point of the poorest of the undesirable also should be dealt with. Socialism does no longer require any unmarried chief's preparation, yet a spontaneous rebel by the lesser privileged, no matter if each person likes it or no longer. Welfare measures are the solutions for the non violent way in assembly the project and there can no 2 evaluations on a similar. VR

If you want to help someone, ask them how you can help them...That way you can decide if what that person wants from you is something you are willing to give. Maybe that person chooses to sleep outdoors in exchange for gaining something else. It might be that homeless person has a lifestyle which makes him impervious to the elements.

Contact your local 'NIGHT SHELTER' they will always want a volunteer.

Have a look at this website www.shelter.org.uk

Also, try to understand the reasons behind homelessness and also recognise that these are REAL PEOPLE, not just anon people.

Try calling your local housing office for advice - they may be able to assist - otherwise call SHELTER and ask for their advice. Good luck - I know its not easy for single homeless people in the UK xxxx
