I am moving into an apartment within the next two weeks, but the guy that lived there used to smoke a lot. What would you recommend that I use to get the smell penetration out, I still have two weeks to do this.

Shampoo all the carpets. Rent a Rug Doctor. After shampooing, Febreeze your carpets heavily. If you can paint, do so, but I'd wash the walls with baking soda before doing that and give the walls ample time to dry before painting...don't forget the ceiling. I'd wash down everything that will tolerate bleach, with a two part water, one part bleach.

Well, if possible, leave the windows open as much as possible. Also, sprinkle, and if possible thinly coat all carpets with baking soda. For as long as you want, the longer the better, then vacuum when you move in. And wash the walls, and obviously all curtains. Then if you still think you have a smell, use Febreeze, it will help.

Baking soda is a wonderful smell remover. Wash the walls and ceiling with it to remove smoke residue and its smell. You can also sprinkle it into the carpet, leave it there for an hour or so and then vacuum it up. This can be repeated as many times as necessary for smell control.
