yes, there is too much division and no discussion going on in this country. democracy is about debate. that means you have to listen as well as speak.

I don't care what anyone else does as long as they don't care what I do and they don't hurt anyone.
Unfortunately, as you state, there are many who would control what you think about and with whom, and many religions that are highly intolerant and try to claim to represent whole swaths of faith (such as the religious right claiming to be representative of all Christians, and if pushed about churches like mine, which are gay affirming, pro-choice and multi-cultural, denying that we can possibly be Christian, because we disagree with them.)
Politically correct means nothing, it is used by all sides to signify different things, so I discard that part of your statement, but otherwise, YES.
Debate and discussion are normal in democracy. I become somewhat disturbed when my life is threatened because I insist that in a pluralistic democracy my faith (left wing/Anglican) is as valid as its opposite number (right wing/Baptist) [and by the way, it has been, by email and by mail sent to the postbox for the website I maintain].
My grandfather twelve times removed fought in the Revolution. It was to establish freedom that he fought. What we have now is rapidly becoming something other.

Yes.
There's just as much thought control on the left as there is on the right. I'm tired of all of it. If I disagree, it does not mean I'm an evil monster. Yet radical people make those accusations.
Tolerance means being respectful when you disagree. The best way to represent yourself is to treat people with respect. Even when facing bible thumpers or tree huggers.

I have determined that Yahoo Ansers is a place only for politically correct discussions. I don't participate much anymore because of that. But it's free so I don't blame Yahoo.

I have survived vile, hate-filled intolerance and for my own sanity, learned to forgive. Perhaps if we were to "adopt" the OLGAS of this world they MIGHT learn that we are not 100% evil and for the most part are really nice people.

Actually what I'm sick and tired of are people who believe their terrible behavior doesn't affect anyone else and it is all a matter of "personal freedom" or some other glib saying/buzzword du jour.

Political correctness and all that goes along with it will likely destroy America as we have known it.

Yes I am - because life was meant to be laughed at and enjoyed. Instead we increasingly impose cares and restrictions, bringing additional stresses upon ourselves and, more importantly, upon each other.

being libertarian, yes i am. as a responsible tax paying adult i can make my own decisions as to what i eat, say, worship, and party with and with whom i have sex. as it stands, i do choose organic, free range, drug free partying, same sex relationships, and inoffensive verbage in the public sector. intolerance infects complete control freaks with too much time on their hands that usually don't practice what they preach.
