Oh my goodness - that was wonderful wonderful wonderful! If I could give you kudos in 20 different languages I would because I often ask myself the same question.
We complain about racial inequalities outside of our spectrum but don't want to wake up and realize we have a huge problem accepting our own 'brothers and sisters' directly in our own race. I grow tired of all of the segregation that happens right in our own community with as you said the "wanna be -jiggaboo" syndrome and 'good hair/bad hair' terminology. What the heck is 'good hair' anyway? Just because you're multi-racial that doesn't guarantee a ticket to silky smooth tresses just like being 100% African American doesn't mean your hair will rest tough like a brillo pad. We don't need outside personalities to tear us down...we do a great job at it on our own.
And what I cannot comprehend even more so is why it's suddenly a new 'trend' to claim all of this 'extra' ancestry. I'm not knocking those that are multi-cultural - but as you said...when it comes down to our birth certificate and completing applications its one simple answer "African American". We are all intertwined with an abundant heritage of European, African American, Indian - etc...but now it appears no one desires to be 100% African American. It's alost as if being 100% African American is 'ugly' and if you claim another portion of heritage then you're automatically 'better'. People are adding that their great-great-great grandfather Ipitombe was 1/4 asian so therefore they are not 100% African American. And its not just the common individual - its rampant across the entertainment/hollywood industry as well. And sadly I can honestly say I had a gentleman tell me once (when he thought I was of mixed heritage) "You know me and my 'black' friends were saying how the prettiest women like yourself are mixed...NOT 100% black." Imagine his dismay when I proudly corrected him to let him know all of this beauty was 100% Authentic African American and proud.
Puh-leese....we need to get back the great songs and personalities of the day where it wasn't taboo to say it loud.....

Willie Lynch did this to the black culture. He figured that if we have them fighting against each other, they will never succeed because they will always put each other down. I read this in a book called something like the psychology of Wille Lynch. He told slave masters to rape the African slaves to create "light-skin" and treat the light ones better so the dark ones would always feel inferior to them and the light skin would feel superior. The one reason why it is so hard to break this cycle is because it is taught in the home and the media. Look at the rap videos...how many dark-skin black women are in the videos? It is like hatred...it is taught we were not born to think this way. The only way this cycle is going to break is this generation has to teach their children that all blacks are beautiful (from yellow as the sun to black as the midnight sky). Check some search engines on Willie Lynch.

sure, we favor to branch out a lot extra. even as human beings save wondering in that mentality, then there truly isn't that many black human beings branching out in distinct parts. All it takes is a few black human beings to paved the way. It also disappoints me, because even as a Black human being does bypass outdoors the "field", they are critized by severel human beings about their race. purely seem at Tiger Woods and Serena and Venus. they have pronounced they were given dealt with horribly because of the particular incontrovertible actuality that they were in an section the position no longer fairly some black human beings were. i imagine fairly some everyone looks afraid to get judged.

While I understand what you're saying, I must admit that I'm not of the same mind as you for one specific reason: I don't think that a "people" were meant to bond to each other. That only breeds fear, resentment, inbreeding.
I embrace my race, my ethniticy, background, life. I'm not hung up on color, because so far, all that does is increase differences.
I am a human being. I live right. Treat EVERYONE with respect, and love everyone. I don't associate with people of poor values or poor manners.
It's all about being human. I wish we could ALL forget the color of our skin and embrace the beauty this life has to offer.

I saw that a lot in the military ... my battle buddy was black dark skin with "nice" hair as you put it ... she also grew up in an upper class white neighborhood so she spoke very differently from the others who were black & mostly from down South ... she was very very intelligent - other blacks would make fun of her - tell her she's acting too white or she's trying too hard to " fit " in ... girls were jealous of her hair ... some black guys would flat out tell her " you're too white for me to date " ... that's just crazy ... I could tell it hurt her .. knowing her own race thought she didn't belong ... she was just as black as the next person ... it happens in every race though ... I'm not sure where I'm going with this but I understand what you're saying ... first hand ... and I'm not even black ... !

"To all my brothers and sisters, I'm hurt. It seems that we can't have "Black Pride" anymore because no one wants to be black. We want to be carmel, light skinned, dark skinned, etc. However, doesn't all of our birth certificates have something along the lines of colored, *****, black, etc?"
well, you cant actually be the color "black" and what was the point of saying that some people want to be dark skinned? if you asked why they dont want to be black?
well anywho i agree and disagree with you on this topic, because its true that some "black" people (girls) go around flaunting how light their skin complection is...i guess some people want lighter skin becaue in our society light skin is BEAUTY when its not, all skin colour is beautiful...I learned that when I personally matured and gaining the knowledge that beauty isnt everything and etc...
Plus i agree about how some people get made fun of because their skin is really dark...like i said before blame it on our society...but i have to disagree because not everyone who are "black" picks on one another because of their skin color, i think thats the last resort when they cant find anything that they think is ugly...
well heres my opinion on this topic

When you call yourself black what does that mean? What is a black? Black does not constitute a nationality or culture. It is something that was created to keep you ignorant of your true Identity. Every man on earth is describe by his nation (Nationality), Chinese are people from China, Irish are people from Ireland, Polish are people from Poland, Mexicans are People from Mexico, Blacks are people from where? Black is a word that should be used to describe a noun. A black car, black skin, black hair, black book etc. When you use black nationalist what does that describe?
There has never been A ONE UNIFIED GROUP WHO IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES BY THE TERM BLACK that's a European Racist creation, So is the Myth of an "AFRICAN PEOPLE". Dealing with mankind on the basics of skin color is the doctrine of the devil.
In Order to deny the truth, they created a lie. They took one indigenous tribe in Africa who still had traditional or what they call primitive culture and said this is how ALL black skin people are. They all wear plates in the lips, swing from trees, don't have a written language etc etc. Today you have so called black scholars using the same terminology the gentiles racist created in order to deceive us. The people on the continent of Africa don't buy into the Gentile racist doctrine of all being one nation because we all have similar skin color. They see themselves as different nations and always have.
You have been fooled into thinking you have made progress because you refer to yourself as African or black, instead of *****, or ******. You have not made any progress, calling yourself black and African is the same as calling yourself ***** and ******. They are all bywords and proverbs they still don't explain who you are. One of the roles of a slave was to except the name "MASSA" gave them. By excepting the name MASSA gave you means you still think like a slave.
What is the true nationality of the so-called "African Americans"? What was it they didn't want them to know? the slaves masters plan was to erase their history.
".....AND THEY ADVISED US THAT THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS PHENOMENON IS TO SHAVE OFF THE BRUTE'S MENTAL HISTORY AND CREATE A MULTIPLICITY OF PHENOMENA OF ILLUSIONS....."
IF YOU WERE REALLY A PEOPLE CALLED AFRICAN OR BLACK, WHY DIDN'T THE SLAVE MASTER TRY TO WIPE THIS AWAY FROM YOUR MIND SET?

I am so glad I grew up around all white people. Black was black. The closer you were to white meant you were bright, not a better person 'cause you was still a black ***** ex slave descendant.
It is SICK, but its like Chris Rock said: No one hates black people more than black people.
Its so insignifiacant...and these same people get mad when they hear that "white people are better humans", why get angry when they obviously believe it themselves.
It is sick and stupid and regardless, you'd have still been a slave - house or field you were 1/5 a human, could be raped, whipped, and killed without regard...get over your high yaller selves and realize you are so "white" because your ancestors were RAPED!!!
Notice how mixed kids don't have the same hangups about skin tone?

I can surely get where youre coming from. I feel the same way. We always feel like the only way to advance ourselves is to put others down. It's sad. I think if we as Black people could get over this then eventually we won't see this as Black and White, but just human.

All of this is a carry over from the slave days. This jealousy got created because the slaves born of mixed bloods, had the more pleasant features, and the lighter skin were able to be assigned to the better type of work that slaves did. They would get to work in the houses as servants, nannys, groundskeepers, black smiths, horse trainers, etc. while the darkies just toiled the fields. Because of this the light ones developed a superiority complex that made them believe that they were better.
