The highest point in the world is Mount Everest at 29,028 feet above sea level, and the lowest point on land is the shore of the Dead Sea at 1,371 feet below sea level. The lowest point on the Earth's crust, though, is the Challenger Deep within the Mariana Trench, 35,840 feet below sea level, but located beneath the Pacific Ocean.

If you look at the lowest point above any body of water, the answers above are correct, the depression of the Dead Sea, wedged between Israel and Jordan is indeed the lowest point (almost 1,200 feet below sea level) you can be dry-footed.
However, the Mariana Trench, located north of New Guinea, is with approx. 33,000 feet depth the lowest point of the earth's crust.
Therefore, with the Mount Everest as the highest elevation point (almost 27,000 feet) there is a stunning difference of 60,000 feet (which is about 13 miles) between both extremes. Even though they are both located in Asia, they are still 4,000 miles apart.
Now imagine, they would be right next to each other, as one single drop without the ocean filling the lower third.......
