i'm almost 17, currently living in the UK at at secxondasry school, but i would really love to go to a school such as interlochen. i know it is too late to apply there now, but they do offer an extra postgraduate year for students whop want an extra year of high school.

my question is, are there any other schools like this in the USA? or any specialist universities that are like interlochen...? are there any other options?

Interlochen is a great school if you can somehow get in...my friend goes there and he loves it. It would be totally worth your time to take the postgraduate course, but if you didn't want to, you could go to one of the camp programs during the summer.

A school like that called International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, MI is where I go. However, the academics are more based on classes like Math and Science instead of the arts. It's also a public school. The thing that's interesting about it though is that they accept people from around the world, hence the name "International" Academy. Since I am American, I had to actually go through a lottery, while International students were automatically accepted. It's really a great environment, and I encourage you to look into it more.

Good luck, hope this helped.

Actually, Interlochen has some openings for second semester and is taking applications until December 11. But yes, there is a post-graduate year offered as well. Many students do the post-graduate year to prepare for conservatory and university auditions/applications.

Depending on your arts area, there are several top specialist colleges and universities in the U.S., including The New England Conservatory, Oberlin, San Francisco Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, The Juilliard School, and more. Several non-specialist universities also have excellent arts programs, such as the University of Michigan, New York University, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, etc.

Search engines are a good way to research, as are sites like http://www.petersons.com and http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/rankindex_brief.php

Good luck!

My suggestion to you would be:

Try their websites and ask the people there. Another thing, to get into Interlochen you will need a referral from a teacher.

Their is University of Arts in New York. I think their program is good...

I don't mean to waste your time, but I live in MI and had no idea that the school in Interlochen was known outside of MI.

Good Luck in finding a school that suites your needs. :)
