It depends on the situation.

Perhaps I could teach someone to do something more efficiently that would save them more than a thousand dollars would.

Some people are being helped in many parts of the world with micro-loans.

It goes back to the concept of empowering people. Information is power. Money can buy power, or a limited amount of information.

Usually, people are helped more with education

The people that really need the help are the people you can help with words. Words are something that everyone has - money is not. It always means so much more when you give someone good advice and words of encouragement instead of a check for $1000.

Most people, don't want that much advise. If a person has a family and no groceries, or needs help with their utilities, to keep their family warm, if their kids need a warm coat, shoes gloves etc. then I would say that the money would be worth more.

The money would help instantly and for the short time it lasted but the words would take time and last forever

if someone I knew had a thousand dollars , I would like to think that they would be "helping " me.forget the words!!.

i could bandaid there immediate problem with money, but you need to cure the cause or the dis-ease will just reassert itself and only words can begin that process.

you could physically help them with 1000 dollars
but to mentally help them, use words!
