Sad to say, but persuasion will not help you win arguements. It will only help you avoid them. Not a bad thing, but not nearly as fun. For persuasion look up Robert Cialdini.

Arguing for fun is a different topic. First, read a lot to develop the proper language patterns and vocabulary. If you haven't been reading for the last few years, I suggest that you start. Second, look up 'Logical Fallacy' on Wikipedia. These fallacies will provide you with the blueprint on how to counter most arguements thrown at you and if you pay close attention how to use them yourself. Third, argue for fun. Do not let the arguements get to you. Understand that they mean nothing. From this detached view you will be able to see their point and find the weaknesses in their arguement. Last, practice. Like everything else in life, practice will help you improve.

1. relax and take whatever time you need to answer each question.

2. Be confident ...it is easier if you know you are right.

3. Maintain good posture. look others in the eye, dont say umm, and dont look away, stand up straight, dont yell unless it is a last resort...

YOU CAN DO IT

Lean in when pressure is applied. Often a reaction is to counter reacted. If your cousin states something in which you disagree....you may want to go w/an open end statement like
"that might be so....but why could it not be .......?" Have them do the work to defend their opinion. It is harder to disagree when you don't have enough evidence to support your statement.

The key to persuasion is understanding the currency of the person you are dealing with. Speak to them in terms of what's important to them, and you will be more persuasive.

Strongly believe in what you are saying...that's a way.
It doesn't always work though.
