Silly string, eggs, nail polish remover, bird dung, non-water-based paints.

Pretty much anything acidic will do it over time (leaves left on for months at a time will eat it away).

Leaving a car out in the sun also oxidizes the paint and makes it wear quicker.

Elephants walking on it, children roller blading over it, the sand from a sand storm in the desert, and believe it or not, something as innocent as sunshine.

Add to that acid rain, salt from the roads in bad weather...and the list goes on. Keep it clean and waxed for best results.

if you go mudding and afterward scrape the mud off with you hands, the mud will leave small scratches that are only noticeable in at a certain angle. rubbing anything against the paint would some kind of scratch.

Once I thought I'd use a dish scratch pad to get the tar off the sides OOPS!!! don't do that. When it was wet it looked great, but once it dried you could see all the scratches I'd made.
