I have been living home for almost a year and am doing it to save some money and pay off my college loans. I work in advertising so I want to move out of my small city of Albany possibly to NYC but rent there is so high. What is your recommendation for a "good game plan". I really want to move someplace warm as well within the next few years. Possibly SO-CAL or Florida. I have a long -distance girlfriend who might move with me someday but she still has two more years of school.

are you paying ANY rent to your parents? I certainly hope so.

Too long to stay under parents' roof is when they keep saying things like "Have you done your laundry, yet?" and making iffy comments like that.

Used to be, kids were at home until they married. I suggest you save and get a nest egg of good money AFTER the loans are paid off before moving out if you are not arguing and being uncomfortable at the folk's house. And get a good and lasting job before cutting all the strings to home. Do your parents like the long-distance lady? Best of luck.

as a parent of several university going children and as much as I love them all dearly and individually. And I am confident if you were to ask them , that my and their answer would be"what time is the next bus!!"
Do not get me wrong,I love and miss them.I love seeing them as some are married now and live very close.
But the truth is that, when they have gone through university, they have their own ideas. They should then be encouraged to go out into the world and live their own lives.
