Well one possible reason is the mind's ability.. or rather tendency to limit the amount of power expended by the muscle groups. The body naturally limits how much stress is placed on any muscle in the body at times of use. This is to prevent damage to the body - uncontrolled most muscles could pull loose or damage the connections and even break bones in your body. In time of severe stress this can often be overcome by other chemicals (such as adrenalin) - I guess you have all heard of little old ladies lifting cars off injured people (maybe not little old ladies but certainly normal people see web link below) - this is due to the system over-riding the normal limitations applied and allowing the body to work to extremes...

So, let us assume that those not quite the full shilling as you put it (nor sure how many readers know what a shilling is!!) Lets assume their mental faculties are not operating at the same level, then it may be the case that the subconscious operations are equally limited.. thus allowing more use (and more liable to injury) of the muscles in both normal and extreme conditions.

Perhaps it may also have to do with demonstrating emotions in a different manner!

But I do agree with you, my wife works in a special needs school and is often speaking of the strength of even the youngest kids.

Well, thats my thoughts anyway...

His face is totally wasted now! think it's some caveman gene still kicking around!

I can recall a guy in my school, in the Crayola class (no pencils allowed). Strong as an ox, used to throw people around like rags. Couldn't fathom where the strength came from as he wasn't that big, just dumb. Would like to know the answer.

i guess it depends how you measure strength - also maybe they do not know any better and will wreck their bodies whereas those with a full pound are more cautious?

I bench 480, squat 620 and can run a 40 in 4.4 - I wonder if i am pence or pounds???
