Yeah, proactive is not that great. The best thing to do is ask your doctor for a prescription for an antibiotic facial lotion (this helps with the bigger, deeper zits), and wash your face twice daily with a mild cleanser (I like Neutrogena fresh foaming cleanser). When your face is clean, use a little bit of salycylic acid or benzoyl peroxide treatment on your "trouble" areas (this helps with blackheads and little pimples), and then put the prescription lotion over that. This is the only thing that's actually helped me!
Also, if you're a girl, birth control pills (orthotricyclin or orthotricylin-lo) help a lot.

I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!
Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:
1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.
2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.
I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn’t use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured…if we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don’t want us to know.
There is a great website: http://cure-my-acne.info/3daycure/ that has all the details. I really suggest you check it out and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.

My recommendation to you is to ease off on the anti-acne medication. I once had the same problem, and it was pretty serious.
Over-the-counter creams actually tend to over-dry out your skin, and the oils on your skin are not 'bad'; they protect your skin and help prevent bacterial infections that can cause acne. Too much anti-acne medication will actually make things worse.
If your acne is very severe or painful, see your doctor; he can prescribe an antibiotic to control the acne. In the meantime, wash your face with hot water only, or if the oil is severe I recommend using a small amount of Dial hand soap. It is antibacterial and will help prevent infections and worsening of the acne. All of this worked for me, and cleared up a pretty serious case of acne I lived with for several years.
Be sure not to put your hands on your face too much, this can also cause acne flareups: using marjiuana can also make the problem worse, or it did for me.
Try not to be too concerned, as most of your trouble is hormonal, and no amount of medicine will clear it up completely. Many, many teenagers suffer from this, even if it might not seem so.
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin healthy, see your doctor, and try to work with your body instead of against it: good diet and keeping your skin clean will do a lot to keep skin inflammations down. Lay off the skin-drying medications, I always personally found them to do a lot more harm than good.
Good luck to you, I promise it does go away with time, and others don't generally notice it as much as it seems to you like they do.

try this for a week or two. :)
first, get some Cetaphil cleanser. it's very very gentle. won't aggravate ur skin and will clean it thoroughly. just wet ur face, rub some cetaphil on ur face, and rinse. pat dry. moisturize.
next, try a thin layer of honey on ur face.. not too much cuz it might sting, and it gets kinda messy. IF u sleep on ur back and u don't move around too much, do that overnight. when u wake up, wash the honey off w/ warm water and some cetaphil.
IF u can't do that cuz u move around too much at night, then do it for like 30 min - 1 hour each night before u go to bed. honey is a natural anti-bacterial agent. and bacteria is what causes acne.
try this for at Least 2 weeks, and hopefully u will see cleaner, clearer skin good luck. i sleep w/ a really thin layer of honey on my acne prone areas each night, and it really has done wonders for the texture as well as the oiliness :).

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

try karitegold.com or search for karite gold on google.
Click on the link for soap and order their acne soap.
I began developing a really bad case of acne around 22 or 23 years old and I used everything in the store, and I even used proactive before it was available in the stores...and low and behold I found my miracle on this site.

Strange.........but head and shoulders works. Use it ONLY! It cleared up my skin in less than a week. It WORKS, And dont wear make-up, use bare minerals $60.00 for a starter kit at Sephora. My face looked horrible till I started using the bare minerals. It's actually done wonders in clearing it up. In a matter of days.
