I never got back to my weight after my first child. I just recently started to exercise and diet to get it off. Now I just found out I am 6 weeks pregnant. I only want to gain the recomended 15-25 lbs. Does any one know of the best things to eat and exercises that I can do to help me not gain so much this time?

I suggest talking with your doctor and possibly seeing a OB dietitian. They will be able to create a diet according to your current needs and likes. There are also personal trainers who will adjust training sessions to make sure you are staying healthy and not endangering you or the baby.

Congrats

Walking and swimming are the best exercises while pregnant. It can be more vigerous if you are used to a normal routine prepregnancy. Diet...it's tough to say! Probably limiting as much unhealthy fats. My doctor told me that in a day of about 1800-2000 (which is ALL you need through all of pregnancy per day)calories, NO more than 25-30% of those calories should come from fat (so read the labels, there is a calories and then calories from fat listed) and she said that would help me to keep excess weight off. So I eat a lot of fruits, veggies, water, skim milk, low fat cheese, low fat yogurt, fat free frozen yogurt and only lean chicken (not fried or baked with breaded skin) and turkey. I do splurge once in a while on some cookies or something. I am 16 weeks not and actually lost a couple pounds, but baby is still big and healthy! With my daughter I only gained a total of 6 lbs (yes only 6 pounds) and she was over 8 lbs and perfectly healthy. You don't even have to gain 25 pounds (as long as you are not UNDER you're recommended weight), some people are just freaks on needing to gain weight and use pregnancy as an excuse for a half a gallon of ice cream and cheesebugers. But you can have a healthy pregnancy, without the unhealthy excess weight! The book "Eating Well When You're Expecting" kinda clears some things up too, and gives good ideas for quick meals and everything. OH and a favorite food of mine now is Multi Grain Cherrios. They have TONS of vitamins and minerals (over 100% for a lot of them) and they taste better than normal cherrios. I feel really good about eating them every morning! Good Luck!

The best thing to do is eat plenty of small meals through out the day. Also talk to your OB about what exercises you can do safely. Yoga can be good if done with a >PROFESSIONAL< who specializes in exercise during pregnancy. (IE NOT your local health clubs yoga instructor OR personal trainer) Some moves in Yoga however can be fatal to an unborn child. I was a trainer for 6 years and you would be amazed at how little training and knowledge most have about even just general fitness never mind pregnancy. This is especially true at big chains such as Bally where a person can get certified as a trainer or group fitness instructor (including yoga) in just 2-3 hours. Be careful and run everything by your OB. If all else fails you can always get a good trainer after the birth and they can get you where you want to be.

Hi, I was in the same situation as you in January. I decided that in january i was gonna lose weight (bout 20 pounds) and in february i found out i was pregnant. The best thing to do is make sure u dont eat alot of junk food and dont become a couch potato. I gained 23 pounds during my pregnancy by just making sure i ate good stuff but it wasnt all healthy. Your body will tell you if you start gaining to much weight. Good luck.

I just had a baby three months ago and I only gained 20lbs at the end of my pregnancy, three months later I've lost 10 of them and working on the other ten now. During my pregnancy, I did alot of walking, just normal walking, espeically in the beginning of my pregnancy. More in the later months I walked less but ate several smaller meals a day including vegs, fruits, and cut out most sweets! Drink plently of water although you'll have to go pee more, you still washing alot out of you! Dont think your eating for two, just eat your normal meals and take your vatimins and you'll be fine! Stop eating when you feel FULL and dont over eat thinking you need to double your eating because your pregnant! Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!

Eat plenty of fruit and veggies, and smaller meals throughout the day.

I always ate a piece of fruit before I ate my "meal", and I ate at least 5 meals a day. Eat good quality protein and a fair amount. You need 100g of protein, and that doesn't mean 100g of chicken. 1 chicken breast is about 58g of protein. 1 cup of chickpeas is 21g. etc. You can find this info online. It is better to limit meat and eat meat alternatives as well. Don't eat too many carbs as they are relatively empty of nutrition DO eat a reasonable amount though. And plenty of dark green leafy things. Oh and limit prepackaged food, try to eat fresh foods.

I did this and after loosing 25lbs the first trimester to severe morning sickness. I only gained about 15lbs by the time I gave birth.

In a nutshell; whole foods! Fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, nuts and seeds and lots of water. Try to stay away from pre-packaged foods, sugary juices, soda and caffienated drinks.
