It's simple, they wanted to get it released by the holiday shopping, even if it ment not having enough systems made.

There is no game.
Sony's problem is twofold - one, BlueRay chips. There is a massive shortage and the chips are very expensive. Part of the delay is the ability to include the BlueRay drive. The other issue is price - When you loose 200-300 dollars per unit sold you have to limit the number that go into distribution.
Nintendo's problem isn't a problem at all, it's experience. Their plan for 4M units by Christmas should fit the demand perfectly, given all their past history. What cannot be accounted for is highly successful marketing and competitor's failures. Nintendo could hope that the Wii would sell like mad, but they wouldn't bank on it. Now that it is catching on faster and harder than anticipated they will certainly bump up the production schedule.
Price gouging for the holidays has nothing to do with it. In fact, if you see a Wii on sale in a store for more than $249 then you can bet that it is the store that is gouging and they should be reported.
And no one who knows anything about this race will be buying a 360... They average life span has been 6 months at best. So many have failed that a class action lawsuit is in the works.

Nintendo and Sony intend to milk the most out of the new consoles. The 360, Wii and PS3 were the consoles that were expected to be great. With low stock of Wiis and PS3s, people who are intent on getting one no matter what the price, will pay for them. Meanwhile, the 360 will probably make less if people are saving up their money for a Wii or PS3.
That's what I think.

I don't know about anyone else, But I would never choose to buy and XBOX over a playstation. Nor would I buy a Wii. I don't intend on getting a PS3 until the price drops and more games are released; however I wholeheartedly agree with you about the lack of systems released. You would think that management would have a better idea of supply and demand by now.

The deliveries were short because the design and manufacturing of the cpu's were delayed. Wii didn't even have a final design until 6 months ago and Sony was no better. IBM could only manufacture so many of the Wii chips in time for the launch date. There are more coming but Wii will definitely be bringing in more than Sony.

It's called marketing. They have plenty of inventory. They are just waiting for a predetermined time to release it with a blitz of rumors that there may not be enough to go around. This give them up to a 50% increase in price and motivates borderline buyers to suck up all they can. It's all hype!

Wii doesnt worry about beating PS3 or 360. the Wii price and game library geared towards younger kids is enough for them to doo good. However ps3 should be the one worried about competing with the 360

xbox 360 gets my vote, simply because Microsoft went and bought most of the good titles before when they heard about the release of the PS3 so we end up with games like Left 4 Dead and Halo which I do believe are very popular.

they are playing it smart, just watch...
about two weeks before christmas, the stores are going to sell these games again but the prices will be jacked up. And if it is on their shopping list, it will be brought for that dramatic price tag.
