Use motor oil in an EMERGENCY only!
If the pump is whining, particularly a Ford product, the best option is to replace the old P/S oil. If it still whines, there is a good chance that the pump has about had it.
Perhaps a conditioner MAY help, but probably going to need to replace the pump.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas

Probly whinning due to the fluid being low. If left low for too long it might blow the pump. If it leaks bad all the time a thicker oil will slow it some but is not recomended because there are other parts or the steering that use the fluid other than the pump. It should be replaced unless the car is a total junkler and you are just nurseing it trough for a short time.

It'll quiet down for a while, until the pump or power steering rack is shot. I did that for nearly a year on my Dodge Caravan. Tranny fluid works good too.

If it's noisy, there's a problem. Dont try to cover it up with oil. Get it checked out. It probably needs replaced.

Tard! You need power steering fluid. Brake or transmission fluid (all hydraulic) would work in a pinch however you really need the proper fluid. Oil will destroy your power steering system.
