What is it about American Idol, that the show always ends up picking the pretty pop star, over someone who is more dangerous and rock and roll?

What happened to all the rockstars? Why does the media and casual music fan not want rockstars anymore?

Fans of rock are less likely to watch American Idol, therefore they are less likely to get the votes needed to win. Bo Bice came close, so did Chris Daughtry, but the winners are the ones with the biggest fan base.

Honestly, I don't know why a person would go on American Idol if they were more into rock and roll. American Idol seems more pop-oriented.

If you want to be taken seriously as a rock musician, don't try and get your big break through American Idol. You will not be taken seriously. Haha.

There are better ways out there to become a "rock star." Don't resort to auditioning for American Idol.

Rock stars are musicians, American Idol chooses casual singers, like the people you would see in Karaoke bars. You don't have to be a musician to be a pop star, you just have to be a "personality". Look at Brittany Spears and Jessica Simpson, and Ashlee Simpson and Paris Hilton, and Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Lindsay Lohan. They all have albums out with millions of dollars in promotion.

Well, I can tell you're referring to Chris Daughtry and Katherine McPhee, or Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice.

This show was made for people to get record deals and for them to show America what they got, and so they did. Chris and Bo already came out with an album, but I mean, Bo sure sounded like pop there.

Carrie Underwood is now country, not pop or rock.

If you haven't noticed, there are a lot of new rock bands coming out and so we listen to them...and most of the rock fans aren't probably wasting their time watching a POP-based show, because pop means popular music, and American Idol is one hell of a popular show.

Why no jazz artists or violin virtuosos too? You know why? Because the Amercian Idol producers just want a cash cow puppet to market and control. Marketing experts make pop idols - they dress them up in flashy trends, computer-enhance their vocals, and let them loose to do cheesy publicity stunts so they get on magazine covers every time they release a CD. On the contrary, Rock and roll artists spend years on the road, playing at small venues and honing their music and developing their style.

Did you watch Rock Star Supernova? I'm sorry, but they all sucked, and I think the guy who won is the worst of them all. I'd rather watch American Idol and pick a pop star anyday.

Someone from the fringe is never going to win a popularity contest. Heck pop is short for popular! But why do you care? Who cares about some hack wannabees elected by sheep.

If you like rock music you don't need a reality TV show to find it.

1) Carrie Underwood has actually turned out to be a country star

2) "Real" artists find things like American Idol to be sell-outs (rightly so)

3) Rock music isn't as canned and easily performed as the routine pop-karaoke songs that are done on AI

i wouldnt say taylor hicks is a pretty pop star. his music is more soul than pop anyway. if that was the case then why didnt katherine win?? i personally think chris daughtry should've won but he probably wouldn't have brought out a fantastic album. but i do agree with you thats why they do a reality show that is just about finding a singer for a rock band. cant remeber what the show is called
