Hi all,

I need to replace to pick up switch in a 1985 ford ltd. I removed the distributer cap? (the thing the plugs are attached to), then I removed the next cap. Now I can see the pickup switch, it's half moon shaped, and there is another thing blocking the way of getting it out. I don't know what it's called but it's round with |_| tab like things on the sides. From looking at the new part it looks like it should just pull off but I cannot get it to do so. Any suggestions? I would also appreciate the names of any of the parts I have described. Thank you.

If it's not called a pickup switch, then obviously I must be talking about the pickup coil. Cut me some slack, eh guys.

pickup switch is not a valid part name

do you mean pickup coil ?

pickup coil is inside the distributor, in the base of it

the distributor cap is what the spark plug wires pop onto, onto the cap towers

the plugs are in the engine cylinder heads at the other end of the spark plug wires

the rotor is the first thing you see when you remove the distr. cap

if there are not screws holding it down then it will pull off

i dont know what tabs you are talking about except maybe the clips that hold the cap in place

if there are no screws holding the rotor on then get mean with it pull harder it will come off

the rotor sits on top of the distributor shaft, by the way

good luck

Use a small screwdriver to release the clip then just wiggle it until it unplugs. I take it you're talking about the pickup coil.

With questions like you purely requested, in case you pick to modify your human being oil and filter out, get someone to reveal you techniques to do it the first time. That way you gained't attempt to modify the headlight oil by mistake.
