yarmulkas, burqa's and large crosses in all public places? And, what would such a ban achieve?

This is a growing debate in some European countries with the most recent one in Amsterdam where the "burqa ban" might be going into effect soon.

It's a difficult question, sure enough.

But with the growing worry on security, banning anything that covers the face has to be considered. You don't let people wear motorcycle helmets in banks, so why let women wear the veil? To say that women do not commit crimes and act as suicide bombers ignores what happened in Russia and Israel, when women wearing veils have done just that.

Veils hinder communication, especially for the deaf and for those who are learning to speak. How can you prove that the woman picking up that child, is actually the child's mother, and not some other woman intent on kidnap, or a man dressed up as a woman and planning even worse?

Ban the veil. If someone wishes to cover their hair, fine. But not the face.

Yarmulkes and large crosses don’t abstract your view of the persons face. It makes no sense to ban them. Burqas on the other hand are a law enforcement nightmare waiting to happen and there is good reason to ban them. The nature of the item and its impact should be the reasons to ban something not what religion it's a part of

I think it's retarded. I heard the burqa ban was going to affect about 45 women nationwide in the Netherlands. It would achieve a great outcry similar to the one caused in France a couple of years ago when they banned scarfs in schools.

I don't believe we in America should ever ban anything that has to do with Christianity. This country was founded on Christians principles.

Religion is a private matter and it should stay that way. No one else need know what faith you practice. So, I think banning public religious identification would be best for all concerned.

I think we should just ban Muslim regalia.....the same way that Christian and Jewish symbols are outlawed in Muslim countries.
