Because they don't want to admit they were responsible for the downsizing and assimulation of the North American Native Nations. It was a shameful time for the British, Americans And Canadians. Incidently I am a Native Canadian from the Maritimes. Victim to the Jesuits and the British Empire. However, I have adjusted to this way of life having never been in that era and frankly I'm content with things the way they are now seeing as I cannot rewrite the past. But I will never forget who I am and where I hail from. For the Natives, the memorials are in our hearts and souls which will last forever.

Well they do have the National Museum of the American Indian in DC. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is the only memorial to the WWII Holocaust that I know of in DC. I guess the American Indian museum could be considered a memorial too but I would think they should do something a little more obvious about recognizing the fact that they were all killed. (but I guess that would make the US look 'bad')

There are no memorials for the thousands and thousands of victims of the Aztecs, either.

P.S. The term "Native American" used to refer to American Indians coming by way of the Beiring Strait is inaccurate for several reasons, not the least of which is that the latest research shows that the earliest colonists to the New World were from...hold on to your hat!...France, several thousand years before the Clovis culture came from Asia. Yup.

Actually, we would need a strong lobby in DC the way the Zionists have to be able to honor the Native American dead

Our education system. We have dumbed down our education system so much that the facts that are taught are only what the textbook writers put in there. When was the last time that you saw a history textbook that mentioned all of this.

Actually, there IS a Native American museum in DC. So they haven't been entirely forgotten - less visible, yes, but not really forgotten.

Babydoll, as a black person with Native American heritage I don't forget about it. Columbus Day or Thanksgiving makes me think about it even more.
