Ireland is not yet free. A quarter of the island is still under British rule.

The Irish declared independence during the Easter Rising of 1916. The Irish were quickly put down with most of the leaders being put to death. The Irish War of Independenceran from 1919 to 1922. The Ango-Irish treaty came into effect on December 6, 1922.
