The next 50 years will be critical to the long term survival of humanity as a species. if we can get a handle on the fossil fuel situation and get some population control measures (force catholics to use condoms!) in place, i think humanity has as long as we want on this planet.
if not, global warming and the already prevalant shortage of potable water and soil sutable for agriculture will kill us all.

The polar ice caps are melting, but it will take hundreds, maybe thousands of years for it drastically affect the human race. We need to concentrate on regulating the polluting industries - factories and oil companies mainly. The general citizens can't do it all ourselves. We need the help of Big Business, too, because they pollute more than the regular people do.

100,000's of years if not millions. Man has been predicting the doom of us since BC & yet here we are. Movies are just that, movies & they are fiction, not reality. Y2K was suppose to be when the world came to an end & many of the worst parts of the bible would happen. Few computer problems & nothing more is what really happened.
