I'm writing an essay on why marijuana should be legalized. IT AN EASY TOPIC THATS WHY I PICKED IT SO PLEASE NO RUDE COMMENTS. Anyway, the teacher said that we need to have a primary source and a secondary source but I have no clue what that means. I'm getting all my information on the internet so does anyone have any sites that I can use for this topic that would count as a primary and secondary source. And also can i get a clearer explaination of what it exactly is. THANKS

A primary source would be a letter, personal interview... something directly from a person. If you talked to a drug counselor or police officer, this is a primary source.

The Internet is a secondary source. Books, magazines, journal articles, are all secondary. Open to interpretation. Also, make sure you're using quality web sites. Make sure they end in edu. org. mil.

Your internet sources are Secondary sources. A secondary source is an article, essay, paper, ect., that someone else has written and you are using as information for your paper. A Primary resource is something like an interivew that YOU conduct with someone or a survey that you conduct. Primary resource just means that you are getting the information first hand, not just looking it up.

Primary sources are usually data or statistics without any interpretation or commentary. Here's an example (http://www.oas.samhsa.gov/NSDUH/2k4nsduh/2k4tabs/Sect1peTabs1to66.htm#tab1.20a)

Secondary sources, on the other hand, offer an analysis or a restatement of primary sources. Examples of secondary sources include: dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks, and books and articles that interpret or review research works.

a primary source is a direct source, like a document, letter, or something that was there at the time of whatever the hell you're talking about. a secondary source would be someone who heard the story or knows about it, like a parent or someone who wasn't really there, they just know about it.
