We are having an ornament exchange and having everyone bring their favorite appetizer to pass.

I am getting hungry just thinking of it!

Adults are often not crazy about games that are formal. But for a cocktail party, the mixers that I will give you links to give the people something mildly challenging to work together on and warm up to eadh other.

That's why they are called mixers as they are meant to get the group warmed up to each other and mixed together.

If you search for bowtie christmas party games on google or yahoo you should get to a bowtieproducts site that will give you 4 new original games that will help make your nite fun.

If links work in the answer blocks here's the link

there is also some party giving advice you may enjoy.

My wife and I made up the puzzles and many people really enjoy them.

I hope they work out well for you

Decorations in whites, silver and blues. Have a buffet table covered in white or blue organza or velvet. White tableware, silver candlesticks or multiples of glass candlesticks. Have groups of candles burning in every room, but not the smelly ones. Put blue glass bulbs in glass bowls around the room-add mini lights to the bowl. Have Christmas music playing softly in the background or some smooth jazz.
For food - stuffed mushrooms, champagne cocktails, finger foods. Play an old favorite Christmas movie for later and serve popcorn and chocolates. Pop Christmas Crackers. Have a fireplace? Light it up. Have everyone bring a gag gift to swap. Go caroling. Smile.

Every year I have a Christmas party. I start planning early...
Make your guest list...Include children? Just adults?
Plan menu. Before planning menu consider how much time you are going to have. If I have a lot of time to work with I make appetizers. Last year was crazy for me so I ordered Italian Beef and rolls with all the sides. I still made cookies and a couple of desserts and I made corn chowder. This year I'm home so I'm going with appetizers. I haven't done that in a couple of years.I try to balance the cold with the hot. This year my menu includes

Cucumber Sandwiches
Deviled Eggs
Layered Taco Dip with Chips
Jalepeno Rollups
Shrimp Cocktail
Cheese Ball with assorted Crackers
Meat Balls
Stuffed Mushrooms
Pizza Rolls
Rumaki
Hot Pizza Dip and
Egg Rolls

Assorted Cookies and Bars.
Hot Spiced Apple Cider
Hot Chocolate
Cranberry Punch
Coffee

Whatever you choose as your menu, make sure most of it can be prepared ahead of time so you can spend most of your time with your guests. I even have batches of punch in the fridge ready to pour in the punchbowl. I make an ice ring out of cranberry juice and fresh cranberries.

I also decorate up the place. I have a victorian tree. On my front porch I have two urns that I plant flowers in in the summertime. I put miniature christmas trees in them and decorate them with small bulbs in my color choice. I have a flower basket with Christmas floral on my front door instead of a wreath. We have a large lighted wreath for our upstairs dormer and icicle lights hanging from the eaves and candles in each window.

If children are coming I make sure I have a small gift for each child to open. Because my nieces and nephews opened their gifts from me each year at my house, I didn't want the children of friends to be left out so I made sure I had a head count a head of time. It doesn't have to be anything major. Most little kids just love to have something to open.

I usually don't plan games because people are coming and going and I enjoy spending time with each family present.

If you or those you invite are not opposed to wine make sure you get wine glass rings to differentiate whose wine glass is whose. Pier One has some cute ones.

Plan enough ahead so you take the time to get yourself ready. Don't make it such a time squeeze that your house and food is awesome but you look like you just ran a marathon.

Hope this helps.

I enjoy throwing parties for the holiday's....

First thing I do is consider how many people, and a budget, that I can afford. Once your budget is established, work on a theme.

Everything seems to shape up once you have a basic idea.

Good luck... I hope you have a wonderful party.
