The alternator is dying. They work better when they're spinning faster, so when they get old, they start failing at low engine speeds first.

The battery light comes on when there is a difference between the output from the alternator and the power required from the car plus battery. If the light is coming on and off when driving I suspect that there may be a problem with your alternator out put. Its easy to check with a multi meter. Connect it up to the two terminals on the battery, start the car up and you should have at least 14volts. If this figure fluctuates up and down, check all the electrical connections to make sure they are all tight and clean. If this does not solve the problem then you will need to change the alternator. Ja.

I am not a mechanic but is it actually a battery light or a light for your power? I remember a few years ago I owned an old Charger and when my light came on and went off when I added throttle the problem was my alternator. Once your vehicle is running, the battery doesn't get used, your power then comes from your alternator.

Your alternator belt is loose. Costs next to nothing to ask mechanic to tighten. But be sure you watch this done, so there's no hanky-panky. You could do it. It's easy, but you need a special tool. Have them check the voltage on your alternator too to make sure it's not going out on you. You can go to Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, Pep Boys for the alternator checkup.

Something is wrong with the car's electrical system ... battery, cables, bad connections, generator, alternator, fan belt, something. Either get it fixed or be ready to walk home when it quits completely.

Your alternator is going bad. Replace it quickly or it will leave you stranded with a dead battery.

Your wires must be backwards. That's all I can think of why it would do that.
