See how many minutes you use, when you use them (peak vs nonpeak) and who you call and who calls you (in network or otherwise). Plus factor in text usage.

Consider that, in looking for the right monthly package, sometimes going over your monthly minutes package by a little bit is a whole lot better than buying more minutes than you'll ever use.

Going the prepaid route will work only if you conscienciously economize your usage as a result of doing pay as you go. If you're still buying prepaid cards at the same rate you were doing the monthly plan, you're only hassling yourself and not saving an awful lot over the long haul.

Use pre-paid instead post-paid.

Note and limit on how much time you use the phone.
