If you're wanting to become an technician and deal with hardware, you may not need qualfications. I know several people who have become IT support members without.

You will need some prior knowledge though. You will need to be able to do more than changing a GFX card say. You will likely need knowlege of all aspects.

You can gain knowledge by browsing the internet. After all, the net is filled with computer garb.

If you can afford to do so, or are currently claiming unemployment benefit, you can ask companies near you for 'unpaid' experience. This is how I got into the games industry. Although I have a Master's degree in computing I struggled to find work. Working for free for a few weeks you can gain lots of knowledge, a bit of experience and a great reference from your employer.

Most folks have training in IT now but no experience. I was in that category for sometime. You need to give yourself an edge.

You may think 'I'm not working for f**king free!!', but it may just lead to something. It happened to me and others I know.

Hope this helps and good luck. :-D

If you are doing the course just to get a job, even basic programming and data entry protocol course would help.

If you are going to use it to build a career, you need to think deeper than your shallow statement shows.

Your best course of action would be to try a few taster sessions. Most colleges and outward learning centers run half day trials. Don't commit yourself to the first one you find.

ECDL or CLAIT are widely accepted in the IT business.
