There is no such thing as a goldfish having "pleny", nor plenty, of space in a 1-gallon tank. Read the following link for more information on how to care for your fish properly: http://www.superfish.orcon.net.nz/bg.htm#buyingtank

If you can't care for it properly, take it back to the pet store. Lord knows it'll get better care there than with you.

No, no it definitely isn't. Your goldfish has plenty of space now, but he won't when he starts growing. Goldfish are HUGE waste producers. They are eating machines and poop machines, and they foul up water quickly. Fancy Goldfish need 20 gallons PER FISH (other goldfish need to be in a pond).
You don't really need an air pump if your tank is large enough, but you should have one, as goldfish need oxygen.
However, they do need a filter. I'm guessing that your 1gal doesn't have one (it can't hurt to buy a small sponge filter, though) - so when you move your goldfish to a larger tank, get a filter that is rated for 20 gallons more than your tank. So, if you put your goldfish in a 20 gallon, get a filter rater for 40 gallons or more (you can't overfilter!)

Please invest in a bigger tank, or return your goldfish to the petstore and get a red betta.

NO.

Goldfish put off more ammonia in their waste products than most fish- even a single goldfish should have a 5 gallon tank, minimum. And only a few species of fish (such a bettas) with specially developed organs for breathing surface air can survive without aeration in the water- goldfish are NOT one of the ones that can!

Do your research and find out what a fish needs to survive- it's cruel and horrible to keep an animal in a tank that doesn't meet its needs.

Your goldfish wont have plenty of space for long in a 1 gallon. But yes its ok for now. Try adding some live plants- they will help break down waste and give some oxygen to the water.

Even goldfish thrive better in an aquarium with a filter....plus a 1g tank is NOT enough room for a goldfish.

Not if you want your fish to live more than a few weeks.

The average gold fish requires at a minimum of 5 gallons with the best tank size of 10 gallons. For one fish. Gold fish grow to be huge! They need lots and lots of space or they will die.

Healthy goldfish have an excellent filtration system and it is recommended that they have a bubble strip in their habitat.

a one gallon tank is too small for a goldfish. Also, goldfish need circulating air, preferably a good filter as they produce a lot of waste...if you have a one gallon tank I would suggest a beta. They don't need any aeration.

it is ok to have no air pump as long as there is a filter but a 1 gallon tank is way too small
