I've heard you can actually rent wedding gowns now. Why not? You can rent everything else. Why spend thousands of dollars on a dress you will only wear once? I would rather have that money in the bank, put it towards the down payment on a house than spend it on a one-time dress.

If your in the bay area check out bay area bridal (known as new things west as well) I got a great deal on a custom dress that was a private label gown. Original was 1200 I got it for 450 at their sale.

Check your local newspaper classified ads. I actually found mine at a garage sale and paid $75 dollars for it. It was a $400 gown that had never been worn because the couple decided to go off and elope or something.

I purchased an $800 gown for my daughter on ebay for less than $100!! It was absolutely gorgeous with the long train and all. Of course we had $80 worth of alterations but not too bad. Try ebay.
