Evertime I drive to work, I see a Prius being driven. Today I saw three of them! A blue, a silver, and a white one. Since when did consumers get interested in this ugly car? From the looks of its size, it doesn't look safe either. And it costs over 22k? What kind of rip off is that.

There are two main reasons people buy this car. Firstly, because it is a gas/electric hybrid, it gets 60 mpg in the city and 51 mpg on the highway. This is stellar gas mileage which only a few cars beat. Considering how expensive gas prices are nowadays, this is very strong selling point for this car. Secondly, cars serve as status symbols for many people. The Prius is no exception. Many celebrities, including Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Will Ferrell drive the Prius.
