I stopped watching it because I realized that the stories were like Mad-Libs. They use the same template and then fill in the family. Family X has a _______ thats is suffering/dying/dead because _______ and we will build them a home. Then they give 17 year olds a racecar/leggo/safari themed rooms (????). They have gone theme room crazy and some of those kids rooms are way too over the top.. Of course you cry because if you see that kind of emotional relief on anyone's face for any reason, you are going to react from it. It is manipulative and now its boring. What about people who are just struggling to get by and just need a break? why doesn't anyone help them? I mean its turned into the disease of the week show. Not saying that those families do not deserve help, yes they do, but you know it would be nice to surprise someone who is just living from hand to mouth and give them that much needed leg up.

they are particularly donated. we've volunteered and spoken to the communities and asked a similar questions and we've been recommended. there is not any new mortgage. and all products are donated. all that happenes moneywise for the recipient is that until eventually somebody else will pay their old mortgage, they nonetheless owe on the old one. so if that they had 100k left until eventually now the recent homestead no rely what its particularly worth (maximum have been guessed to be particularly worth 450+) they nonetheless purely have the 100k. And as long as they do no longer take out a clean mortgage like various the families have, they in no way could agonize approximately dropping the homestead. i think of it particularly is enormously spectacular and that i understand we had a large variety of relaxing volunteering!

Not only does it try...it usually succeeds!
(has anyone else thought about what happens to these families 6 months or a year later? How do they manage to pay what must be larger electric, gas, water, property tax bills after the makeover is done???)

YES! And I've always prided myself on being a hard-nosed cynic! What really gets to me is the family's' reaction...cry me a river!! Though the show itself is based on prefabrication, the emotions are real. Still, being a single person, working his way through college, living in horrible conditions myself...I think that its unfair. These people deserve a brand new house for being irresponsible and apparently Catholic??!! Hasn't anyone heard of postponing children, especially if your current living situation doesn't allow it?

Yes.
In fact, I saw an article from their producers the other day (where???) sharing that that is part of the show's appeal for most viewers, including me.

Oh, good grief, yes! I can't stand it- it's melodrama, manipulation, and unrealistic. Does everyone have to burst into tears every three minutes? I don't...
