I am a middle age bachlor and I hate to cook.I hate my own cooking. My mother(now deceased) always poked food at me when I visited. If I said no I do not want anything. She would not take no for an answer.I would end
up leaving mad.I hate someone poking food at me.When I
get up in the morning I do not want to eat right away.I
like to eat later. She said you have to eat right away when
you get up.Eating is not a priority to me.
Why are some people obsessed with food.I think it is repulsive.

Your mother's poking food at you is her way of showing she cares about you. Her wisdom about food was probably handed down to her by her folks and she expects you to carry on the tradition.
You are your own person; eat however and whenever you want.

I live alone and it is just difficult for me because I don't want to go in there and spend the time preparing something for one person. I just like to eat when I get hungry. I am so glad I don't have to cook for a big family any more. But, I do miss it at Thanksgiving because no leftovers.

You are not alone in your feelings, but your mother reminds me of the mother on the show "Everybody Loves Raymond." She was always trying to get Raymond to eat everything he visited her. (just adding a little humor).

Eating is generally a social activity maybe you just need someone to have lunch with (I'm not being sarcastic...I mean it).
I can't stand eating alone and I'll usually just throw a sandwhich together and watch a movie instead of cook.

People mainly eat too much because they're stressed out, and they don't want to offend the guests.
