This is new to me. when I was a child in elementary school we had to memorize our times tables. (Extremely tedious) Then it was publicized that only American children had to do this and children in other countries did not do this, but could very quickly do the calculations in their heads and come up with correct answers. My children did not have to memorize their multiplication tables. Both are now adults. My daughter can quickly do calculations in her head. My son uses a calculator. By the time someone puts the numbers into the calculator, my daughter has the answer. Which do you think is better?

i'm american and i do too. i learned it in school. its really not that hard. i can teach you your 9's right here. hold up your hands. 9x1, lower the pinky on the left hand, you have 0 fingers to the left of it and 9 to the right, that makes 9. 9x2, lower the ring finger on the left hand, you have 1 finger to the left and 8 to the right, that makes 18 (1, 8). you can do this up to 10! wow, wasnt that easy? i learned that about... lets seen 3rd grade... so about 15 years ago.
