I'm thinking of livening up my hamsters boring life by place a saucer of porrage in it's cage, covering it with a sprinking of straw and placing a little sign saying 'DANGER! Quick Sand' Do you think this will work?

Haha! I like it..!! Danger Quick-sand!! Well lets put it like this! The rodent will probably scuffle up all the straw and store all the porridge oats in its mouth and then take it back to its Hideout..It will come back and also Nibble hell out of the sign until its pretty much Gone! so then the rodent will be back to square 1..Bored s***less...I had a Hamster who was bored Once Until he Cleverly Escaped one day and then returned 7 days later..I then found out he made his home out of chewing all my wallpaper in the corner of the living room Under the cabinet...Once i put him back he knew there was a better life outside to explore and the Little Bugger Kept trying to get out ...he was Bored No-More...ha!

That's a jolly well-educated hamster if he reads the sign! Are you sure it's him who's bored? ;-)
I once had a dwarf hamster who loved a spoonful of porridge placed in his tray -for food, that is, not exercise... He loved nothing more than fresh pancake and flicked it over his head to carry it on his back like a cape, thus looking like a super-hero! I don't know who was the most entertained, me or him!?
Seriously, a variety of foods to try can relieve boredom.
My current hammie really enjoys the pumpkin seeds that I have dried and kept since Halloween. Also, I've noticed that whatever I put in his home, his purpose in life in to stash away his food like a squirrel... If yours is like that too, perhaps you could use your imaginative talents to make this activity exciting for him?

Perhaps you could use an ice cream tub instead. fill it with porridge and then cover with straw. please post the results on youtube can't wait to see another hamster swing down on a rope and try and rescue the first hamster from sinking.

No you need a margarine tub, a saucer is far to shallow to simulate that sinking feeling.

Did the little hamster "tell you " he was bored?
maybe you should take him to a therapist.
or get him a blow up girl hamster.

you could install a miniature Alton Towers made out of Lego & Meccano...better yet, give him the raw materials & let him build it himself. He could invite friends round to help him.....
