Something is not working!

With more information, such as year make and model,I could give a better answer. You have not said a thing other than it is a car that cranks but does not start.

It could be a lack of spark, a problem with the fuel system, or a problem with the engine.

Sorry I could not help more!

Unfortunately, that could be any number of things. Bad spark plugs, clogged fuel filter, fuel pump not working anymore, problems with the ignition system, restricted air flow to the engine; the list goes on and on. Best advice I can give you is take it to a reputable "mom-and-pop" mechanic that gives free estimates. You may have to pay for a tow, but it's better than trying to replace a bunch of stuff like spark plugs or wires or fuel filter when none of those may be the problem.

Given that much information, I would say it is a case for the psychic mechanic..... and he envisions ah ah ah lose nut behind the wheel....no that's not it. The intake ducting is lose.. give the intake ducting up to the throttle housing a good shake/pull look for any lose clamps or openings from the air filter to the throttle housing. The computer needs to know by the intake air sensor that there is a vacuum before it will allow the engine to start.

Is there gas? What car is it? Give some more details
When did it last start? Is the distributor okay? Getting a spark?

Out of all the answers I read no one said anything about a starter! Look into that. You may need new plugs or just simply you have a loose connection on the battery.

No fuel or no spark.
If it is a "newer" model, your timing sensor may be off or dead.
check your coil or ignition pack, and your fuel line service port.
(I believe it is called a King valve, or something to that effect)
