Omg!! same thing happend to me last wednesday!! I called my OB and asked him i had sex that night and i was bleeding a lil bit and then the next day i had a little glob of white/cream color mucus of course i didn't know what it was!! this is my first baby too! SO i called my ob and he said that it was my mucus plug and that not all mucus plugs have blood in them and that i could be dry for the next couple of days and have little discharge after those few days! And when you lose your mucus plug you are probably dialated at least 1 cent. and some woman go into labor within 2 to 3 weeks after they lose there plug!!

As you probably know by now, getting pregnant introduces you to a new up-close-and-personal acquaintance with your body, and you find yourself wondering about things that never would have occurred to you before. One of these might well be the mucus plug, which your healthcare practitioner probably has mentioned.
As she might have explained, the mucus plug is just an accumulation of secretions that form within the opening to the uterus, also called the cervical canal. The fact that mucus accumulates early in pregnancy is quite beneficial, as it serves to create a protective barrier against infection between the outside world and your growing baby.
As you near the end of your pregnancy, your cervix will begin to thin out and dilate. As it changes, you may lose your mucus plug and find a gooey deposit in your underwear or on the toilet tissue after wiping. It is not uncommon for this mucus to be mixed with brown, pink, or red streaks of blood from the changes occurring within your cervix. Some women may lose the plug at 36 weeks' gestation, while many others may not lose it until labor has begun. Sometimes moms-to-be may not even notice that they are losing their mucus plug because it happens gradually, over several weeks, and they've already grown accustomed to varying but increased amounts of the vaginal discharge that often accompanies a normal pregnancy. If you are earlier than 36 weeks' pregnant when you see blood-tinged mucus, or if you have any vaginal bleeding beyond the first trimester, you should call your practitioner.
Is labor soon to follow?
Rumors seem to abound when it comes to what it means to lose your mucus plug. While there's hardly a pregnant woman out there who doesn't wonder when exactly she will go into labor, the appearance of the mucus plug does not answer this question with any certainty. That said, loss of the mucus plug is often the first sign that labor is approaching. Before you make a mad dash to Labor and Delivery, however, remind yourself that many women do not go into labor for a week or two after this event. In fact, if you are full term--which almost by definition means that you'll be welcoming your new baby within the next few weeks--there is usually no need to even make an after-hours call to your practitioner.
Whatever the case may be, be kind to yourself during this time. Sit back, try to relax, and let nature take its course. Make sure to get plenty of rest because you will need it after labor begins. You may be on your way to helping along a miracle any day now.

The "mucous plug" usually does not come out until early labor--- when it does discharge, you will be experiencing contractions very soon. In fact, most people are well into early labor when it comes out because the cervix's dilation (opening) is what causes it to come out.
It is generally very thick, quite noticeable, and often tinged with a little blood ("pink show" is what your grandmother's generation called it!) . If there is ever more than just a hint of blood, call your doctor immediately or go to the emergency room. Bleeding is a sign of something being very wrong.`
Try to get into some natural childbirth classes--- even if you don't plan to have a completely drug-free labor. You will learn so much from the other Moms.

This is not your mucous plug. The day I went into labor with my son I had a little bit of clood in my discharge when I wiped, I thought "Hey, that's my mucous plug." But it was not, lol.
I lost mine during a rough internal at the hospital. When I sat on the toilet I watched it fall into the toilet. It is a big thick wad. Sorry to sound disgusting, but you will know if you lose it. It's not a little discharge it's not huge, but it's a big mucousy clump.

Your mucus plug will look like bloody snot in your panties, if you see it at all. I didn't see mine in either pregnancy, just started contractions. Don't worry so much, its the most natural thing in the world, giving birth. I hope you took a childbirth class. I know they don't recommemd them as much these days, but how else are you supposed to know what to expect?

it's not your plug, but gettting ready to be! You will know, it is very discernable and gummy (no better way to describe it). You will feel kind of crampy when it passes. If you are progressing in your labor quickly, the cramps will start straightaway, keep a timing when they do. . Please PLEASE call your dr, in late pregnancy no question is stupid or embarrasing- they have heard them all before and they will set your mind at ease. But do take it easy- sounds like you will have a Christmas Baby. Congratulations and good luck

Your mucous plug looks like a chunk of dried rubber cement. You might start passing chunks of plug, then it'll get bloody. This is normal.
It's a sign that labor is upcoming, but doesn't necessarily mean you're in labor.

Believe me, you'll know if it's your mucous plug. It's not like regular discharge and there'll be a LOT of it and probably brown or red tinged.
