Blood Brothers is far better in that there is actually a story line and it was written by a very fine writer.

Dirty Dancing, well if you like the movie I'm sure it'll be ok and you can have a wee sing along too!!

I saw Blood Brothers in about 1991 in the West end. Haven't seen Dirty Dancing but love the movie still. For your birthday I would go to Dirty Dancing. Blood Brothers is obviously brilliant but the plot is not very cheerful. Have a good time and happy birthday.

I actually just saw Blood Brothers two days ago and really liked it. It is not a true musical in the sense that there are not every many big dance ensembles but the plot and characters are great! I've seen many musicals including Les Miserables, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Spamalot so Blood Brothers does not really compare to these musicals but is a solid choice. I have not seen Dirty Dancing but I would suspect that if you like the movie (and prefer more dancing), you should see it instead.

I sat in the 3rd row on bottom floor in the stalls on the left and my view was still great.

I saw Blood Brothers at the Pheonix in London with Linda Nolan as the female lead. Having never rated the Nolan Sisters I did not expect to enjoy the play much. It was superb!! It has a good story line and as for having only one song...you must be joking. It is a fairly sad story but there are loads of funny bits in it. Expect to laugh a lot. Go and see it and make your own mind up. Everyone has seen the Dirty Dancing movie......Blood Brothers is far better.

Hi there, just joining in on the side of Blood Brothers, one of the best musicals I have ever seen - with a real plot and one hell of an ending, but sweet and sad and funny along the way. (It is set in the North but that doesn't matter, honestly). You can always watch Dirty Dancing on DVD, or go and see it later. It will knock your socks off, give yourself a real birthday treat!
Cheers, Steve.
PS Happy birthday!

Go for 'Blood Brothers'. It's not strictly a Musical, more a play with songs. I personally don't think it's very good, but I'm often outvoted by my friends so it's just a personal taste thing. I like to call it 'Brookside! (the Musical)'. Dirty Dancing, however, is utterly appalling. I was forced to sit through it three weeks ago, and that's not just personal taste.
The entire party I was with hated it too. Utter bollocks.
Stick with 'It's grim up North - The Musical'.

Saw Blood Brothers about four years ago- enjoyed it a lot, very moving, good characterisation etc. Depends what you are looking for, for a feel-good singalong then Dirty Dancing would win hands down each time.

well blood brothers is so sad and emotional....you should see it if you feel in a crying mood...it's a really good play.

but if you want to see a more happier, dancy play then go for dirty dancing.

I'd personally go for blood brothers because I don't really like dirty dancing but loads of people think dirty dancing is amazing...so it's up to you really.

Blood Brothers is a brilliant play, they only sing one song in it though, if you want to dance and tap your feet dirty dancing is for you.
