I would be very very angry if that had been me! If I was her I would report this to the manager. That is a very serious offence. It is a spoken and unspoken rule that you never discuss wages or nosy at other peoples wages. That is bang out of order and needs to be dealt with. If she doesnt want to go to the manager I would definitely recommend she speaks to the person who done it and explain why it was out of order and advise her if it ever happens again she will report it.

The missus ahould go right to her employer's Human Respources Department or personnel office and file a grievance. No one but her supervisor should have had their hands on that envelope. If this doesn't work, spread the word that her colleague can't be trusted to behave like an adult.

A lot of companies have an instant dismissal policy in cases like this, as salaries are private information.

I am an Operations Manager for a large company, and we will discipline and summarily dismiss for gross misconduct in such a case.

Try the human resources department for advice & find out company policy.

Her collegue shouldn't have ever had his hands on that payslip. It is out of order and he should be reprimanded by the manager.

Definitely an inappropriate thing to do. There can potentially be sensitive information on a paystub other than just earnings amounts. I would go immediately go to whoever heads up your wife's human resources department and complain.

It's just one person's word against another. Unless you have proof I wouldn't have thought it would be worth pursuing.
I'd be pretty miffed if I was in the situation though.
Some colleages may say "what have you got to hide". If you don't think you can justify your salary then it might make the situation worse since others might start gossiping as soon as they hear about the incident.

That is terrible!!! How did this person get the pay slip? In my old job we had to sign for our pay slips. I think your wife should report this person. Your pay slip is private and shouldn't be seen by anyone unless you give your consent.

your wife should go to her boss and complain, she should also find out why someone else had access to her wageslip, this is confidential information, that is why wageslips are sealed in the first place, she should also ask her boss how he/she would feel if someone opened their wageslip to find out how much they made.

You could, though i wouldn't recommend it, make a case to the police. At least tell her/his boss and make sure your wife lets them know how annoyed this is. the very idea is making my blood boil, i'd want to smack the *****
