I had an abdominal hysterectomy on 11/13 - staples are removed, feeling pretty good and no longer taking pain medication. My husband is giving me hard time as to driving. I will probably only go 1 mile from home. Any ideas of what I should say or do?

You have to have permission from your doctor, it's normally 6 weeks, as if you have an accident your insurance can be void

here is a simple rule to go by. "you have only 1 chance to heal correctly the first time!" dont let your husband or anyone else rush you into doing something. that if for your doctor to decide. 17 days into healing is way too soon with an abdominal cut. you should at least be at 4 weeks. i had a vaginal hysterectomy 4 months ago, my doc gave me permission to drive at 2 weeks but i wasnt cut stem to stern. i still waited until 4 weeks because it hurts to turn the corners or push the brakes. if someone is rushing you they are being greedy and you shouldnt allow it. if you get into a wreck you could end up back in surgery or worse. if you go back into surgery you get to start the whole healing process over again. heal right the first time!

I hade a hysterectomy when i was 23. I hade three kids at the time,so i hade to be on the move all the time. I was up and going in 3 days.I am doing great now. My point is take it easy and you will be fine.

They usually say 4-6 weeks. Follow your after surgery instructions. They give them for good reason.

I would think so. Just don't be lifting things.
