Did the romanians form at the north of the Danube or at the South and then migrate to the north?

Well,as I learned in school Romanians formed at the north of the Danube...
The theory according to which Romanians formed at the South of Danube and then migrated it seems it's made by the Hungarians in order to prove that they were first in Transylvania and Romanians found them there and pushed them outside...But this theory was prove to be false...
