Overdrive is basically like another gear... It has nothing to do with snow. It makes your motor revolve less for the same amount of work (like a 10 speed bike in a higher gear) therefore increasing fuel efficency and the life of your motor. Try this out and you will see what I mean... get on the expressway going about 60 or 65 in D like you normally are. Then put it into O/D. (it is safe). You will notice your transmission shift and the tachometer will drop down. It will also ride more quietly... You must live in a warm climate.

Just the opposite. Overdrive is only for on the highway at constatnt speeds. The car won't shift into OD until about 45 mps, so you can leave it in OD even in town. If you notice while driving on hilly roads, that the car keeps shifting up and down, then just shift it to D.

You have got it backwards. Run in overdrive most of the time for good gas mileage. If you pull a trailer or drive in very hilly country, you may have to take it out of overdrive.

If you have your car in overdrive, it's in overdrive. It doesn't matter what speed you're going. It comes out of overdrive when you slam down on the gas petal. Mike is right, it makes your engine work less. U should use it.

It's not for snow. Leave the car in overdrive.
If you take off overdrive, the car will not shift above third gear I believe. So if you're on the highway, you be laboring along in third gear.
