Who influenced your political views and have you changed them from your younger days?

My parents were both democrats. I enlisted into the Navy and was sent to the Marine Corps where I worked spec. ops for years. I was influenced by both Ron Reagan and Bill Clinton. Being at the becon call of both of those presidents, I quickly learned who was REALLY looking out for the welfare of the nation and who was in it purely for himself.

I am a conservative.

My political views were influenced by Thomas Payne, Washington, Lincoln, Grant, Sherman, TR, FDR, Kennedy, Nixon,Clinton, Reagan and certainly George W Bush. I once voted Republican, but am now a staunch democrat, due mostly to the last influence on my list.

When I was younger, I looked up to my mother. I have changed multiple times throughout the years. Although, I make my own decisions now, my mom and I agree sometimes. I just look at their views and get any history of their views and if I have a good or bad feeling about them.

I have done a move to the slightly-right-of center over the decades as the programs these great men created for public welfare have backfired - in short, Communism is not possible because of corruption. That's why I am a capitalist - why should the government be my source of welfare when it should be myself thru my own actions?

My parents, education, and personal reading/research. My views have only solidified, although I will admit that I have become more socially liberal (for example, I have no problem with gays etc).

I no longer turn to my parents for political information; my father died and my mother has turned into a flaming liberal (turns my tummy!!).

Now I watch the news, listen to the radio, read non-fiction, and read magazines and news online to form opinions and get the facts.
