If you are his direct Manager then he needs to respect you no matter what.
He is testing your patience and he seems very relentless none the least.
You should have a meeting with him at once and tell him that he needs to stop undermining your authority! I have had this problem before and believe me confronting people and telling them in a stern and professional manner really gets their attention.
My best advice to you is to not stoop down to his level.
Continue to speak to him, give him tasks to complete and also give him respect.
Being a woman, and a manager is not an easy task because of some many egos out there.
But if you remain professional and do your job to the best of your ability, you will get the respect you truly deserve.
Hope this info helps you. And i also truly believe if you give him a chance he will change for the better.
God Bless.....

This "young" co-worker is simply showing his colors. Keep your professional attitude with you, but protect and distance yourself from this person. You can also set benchmarks for the team to meet with measurable performance measures. Explain your plan to the manager who appointed you. If this "young" individual doesn't make three of your goals (let's say), speak to your manager about having that person replaced. If that doesn't work, you can always treat him with the same respect he's giving you. If you don't handle this, the other men will lose any respect they may have from you or they could even be pumping this 'youngun' to give you a rough time. Either way, you've idenitified your problem, now you have to come up with several solutions. The first ones may not work. Good luck to you and I wish you the best. Congratulations on your promotion, too!!!!!!!

Bring it to your manager's attention again, but if possible do it subtly. For example, make some friendly comment, praise a task he completed satisfactorily, or greet the guy within the hearing of the manager so he can witness the interaction and the worker's lack of response and respect. In the meantime, be above reproach in your treatment of him. Always greet him and treat him as respectfully as he should be treating you. Let the contrast in behavior be obvious to everyone.
You need not be affected by his ignorant insecure childish acting out. View him as you would a bratty child... to be ignored when not too disruptive... disciplined when necessary.
The other team leaders will tire of his behavior as well. If the manager does not notice on his own, it will eventually be necessary to have another meeting.
And, very important, DOCUMENT each incident! (Date, time, what happened) Vague generalized complaints with words like "always" and "never" lack the potency of "on December 1st.....blah blah"

You were promoted to a being a team leader - as in LEADER of the team this guys is in. Although you don't want to have confrontation, you have to confront what is going on.
You are now his superior and he should treat you as such. You need to sit him down - just the two of you and explain to him that you aren't sure what his problems with you are but you would like to address them, if possible. If he can't tell you what his problems are, then he needs to get over them and start acting right.
If he still doesn't improve, talk to management and find out what your options are. Do you have a policy of 3 write-ups and you're fired? Make sure that you document exactly everytime he insults or undermines you. Then, either get him transferred to another team or let him go. He did it to himself.

You're gonna have to do what parents call "tough love". If he disrespects you, talks back or completely ignores you then tell him to leave the office area and not come back until he realizes you are one of the team leaders. But if there are 2 team leaders, you being one, then you may want to speak to the other and ask for his assistance in this also, then the 2 of you bring in the co-worker and speak to him together. If the co-worker doesn't like it, tell him his next action would be to clean out his desk and find another job.

Give him enough rope to hang himself with it.
always have a witness when addressing this person.
ask the other team leader for support.
and who cares if he never says hello or goodbye you are not there to make friends.granted the next time that you talk to your manager point out his behavior as not being part of the team.even the not saying goodmorning or goodbye. and if at all possable try to make conversation with this person in front of your manager.he will get the point.
chin up confrontation might be the only thing that will resolve this isssue. only make sure you have a wittness to the exchange.
realizing that you are in charge will take time if you are weak he will use it against you.REMEMBER the quote the toes you step on today may be connected to the a** you have to kiss tomarrow.

Embrace this as an opportunity. Arrange a meeting. Open the meeting by recognizing his talents. Give him credit for the things he does well. Second, explain to him that you also recognize that he is not recognizing your position, and that you would appreciate his suggestions as how he and you can work together better and more professionally. Listen. Care. Stay on the high ground. Thirdly, thank him for his input. Document the conversation.

maybe he's just a complete idiot? maybe he thought he was in line for the job you got?
whatever way, it's 100% completely his problem. if he's not talking to you then yo concentrate on those who are and getting the best with them.
he'll either clam down or disappear up his own hole, either way you don't need to worry,
