growing headless clones to adult size in artificial wombs for organ transplant or whole body prosthesis is now possible. as is the growth of head structures while inhibiting brain development from the egg stage. do you think that by extending our lives by 50 years at a time, we might become evil in some way?

Hello John,

I do think that there's a real possibility that to extend their lives unscrupulous people even now devise their evil plans. Eeeek did that come from WAR OF THE WORLDS?. Anyway the use of cloned bodys without brains would ultimately be genocide for the harvest of organs or body parts. Just because someone has a brain that's inhibited in some way doesn't mean they aren't justifiably as human as the next person. Did you know for example that experimentation has been going on to prove the existence of thought going on in parts of the heart. Stunning isn't it. These human bodys in which we reside are much more complex than the men in white coats know.

Yuk! I know science has taken us to brave new world, but I for one would not want to live immortally in this world! Christians believe immortality is achieved when you die, another faith re-incarnation, or perfect karma, some say nothing happens at all, that's no existence at all.As far as being evil, well some humans have chosen that path,
others have given themselves to the benefit of humanity.Personally I would prefer choice than be a mindless cyberman!

It depends on whether you mean keep growing old without actually dying... I guess that would be quite sad and painful, wouldn't want that.
Then, if we stayed young, but we carried on treating the planet the way we are, we would live forever in a uninhabitable place, which would not be nice either.
The advantages is that we could get to play every sport in the world and learn every language spoken. We could actually live a million lives in a million places and become familiar with every culture/custom in the world.

I am not so sure about the evil bit, but I think we may become bored if we were immortal.Imagine doing the same things with the same people, for eternity. It would be for eternity, because if everyone was immortal, there would be no room on the planet for anymore beings, so we would have to all be sterilised so we could not reproduce.. It would be just us forever.

The disadvantage of being immortal is the danger that in all that time, you still never realised what your purpose for existence in the first place was.

I wouldn't say evil, cuz we are clearly that now. But we all would be frankensteins walking around here. Everyone having different pieces of themselves just slapped together, that is the worst part of it. I say everyone should pass on naturally. If it is the way of things.

It brings a completely new meaning to the concept of identity theft.

Scientifically, I would say yes, there is a possibility of such technological advances could turn on us when it comes to challenging nature.

It reminds me of a story called "The River Styx Runs Upstream" about a man who has his dead wife reanimated. She was there physically, but her soul was gone. Eventually the eldest son killed himself. And guess what happened to him?

Outliving those we love, getting to love more people and losing them. The pain would be unbearable!!!!!
As for evil, I don't know but the book/film Pet crematory spings to mind, yuk.
No-One should ever have to outlive those they love, it is horrendous. Click below to see what I mean, I would far rather be the first to go out of those I love!
