There are practical reasons, too, beyond appearance and insecurity. Some men have way too much hair "down there" and trimming it back (note I did not say shave) can make for a cooler, less sweaty groin.
Also, very hairy men might want to trim back their anal area so as not to promote feces getting stuck in the hair. Gross, I know, but like I said, practical.
Trimming is always preferable to shaving... a lot less abrasive, avoid the possibility of encouraging in-grown hairs, and more attractive as well.

Several possible reasons:
--they have crabs
--they REEEeeeaalllly do not want to grow up
--they watch way too much porn (especially gay porn) and take porn actors as role models
--they like to stink - without hair, there is almost no sweat evaporation, so all those odor-producing beasties have a field day. MMMmmmm!
--they are stuck in the 1990s and don't want to risk getting the Y2K bug - most people outside porn movies gave up shaving there about 1998
--they think Ken dolls are way cool, so they shave EVERYTHING to get that nifty plastic look
--they are going for chemotherapy and want to be in control rather than having the hair fall out on its own
I think that's about it.

I met one guy who did it because it claimed it makes him look bigger. In reality he was insecure and it was something he felt compelled to do. In the movies men do it so hair doesn't obstruct the view.

My ex used to do it; it cracked me up. He was doing it to appear larger. It didn't look any bigger; just shaved.

Because it just looks nicer and plus smell is trapped in the hair... so once its gone.... you have no oder.... Also... it makes it sooo much more pleasant when you are tossing his salad. :)

i would say personal preference some people call it manscaping and from personal experience the ladies seem to really like it
